As for the Saturday group, we'll see if Robin and Leslie B. are moving forward on this or on hold for now. Once we know more, I'll get it posted here!

News on Resuming Women's Group 2009-2019, Reinvented!

Hello ladies,

A few of us enjoyed some discussion, prayer and planning at the kick-off meeting yesterday. Thank you Robin for all the work you did setting it up!

Here's the new proposed agenda for this year's Women's Group:

Tuesday nights (twice a month? TBA very soon) - Fellowship Night
This group will be probably be the same as what we've always done, some prayer requests/praise, maybe some Bunco, and just enjoying fellowship time with each other, a "get away from life and spend time with the girls" night!

Saturday mornings (monthly? TBA very soon) - Bible Study Group
This will a time of digging into scripture, prayer and a time for letting our hair down spiritually with each other so we can be each other's listeners, mentors and come alongside to love and pray with each other. This could be a Beth Moore study, or something similar.

Each of these groups will be led by a team of two who will lead the group in deciding where, how often to meet, what to do within that group, etc.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING A LEADER OF ONE OF THESE, PLEASE COMMENT BELOW IN THE COMMENT SECTION.

These two groups will meet separately but we are ALL encouraged and invited to attend both when/if you can as they will meet different needs. Each group will decide how often to meet, what they want to do, etc. You don't have to attend only one, and you can attend both every time or as you are able.

The hope is that we will remain one large group (along with the women in the sewing group) and occasionally get together for small retreats or an occasional large group gathering to keep us all bonded as Bridge Women. It will be up to the dual leaders of each group to help the groups get the retreats/get-togethers started in planning mode. BUT...that doesn't meant the leaders are expected to do it all, they are just the coordinator's. The women of Bridge are one large group and we want all of us (and anyone who attends but doesn't attend Bridge)to be in on the helping and planning so the work, and the fun, is spread evenly.

Don't just read this and move on, please leave your comments, suggestions for events, and your desire to get involved in the comments below so everyone is up to speed. We hope to get both groups going again very soon so let's look forward to our year!

Retreat Reminder

SUMMER PLAN for Tuesday Nights and the Retreat

This past Tuesday night we discussed the summer months and decided to take the summer off because many of us have trips, plans, etc., happening, especially in June. So through the end of August, we will not be meeting.

On the mini-retreat, again due to a lot happening in June, we are moving the date for the retreat to Friday, July 31st. More information will be forthcoming in July on it.

This week we will be taking an Easter Week break. Many of us have had company, are working with the soccer camp and youth group, are out of town, and especially have had some very sick families. Leadership Opportunity

Hello Ladies,

Last night at Women's Group was amazing, just what we all needed. We hope to do this again occasionally, as leadership for it permits. Thank you Marisa, for the time you invested in preparing for the evening.

Now...onto the leadership opportunity.

I've been "leading" the group for some time now, although leading our group isn't difficult, it's more like overseeing things. But...I don't feel it's my strongest gift and as we're getting more women in our group, I'm sure there's someone who has great leadership skills that would love to "lead" this group. So I'm asking if there's someone who would take this on as their ministry.

It mostly involves:

Keeping the blog updated and emails going when necessary (I can still help with the blog if that's not your thing);

Keep the meetings running smoothly and timely each week;

Keeping prayer requests moving;

Bringing (and overseeing) new ideas to the group for our meetings, special events, etc.

I'm sure we haven't even tapped the resources that lie within each of us in bringing our talents to the table here and while I love helping, I feel like this is not my particular gift. Or maybe I need a break, I don't know. :)

So - anyone out there thinking, me! me! me! There's not much to do in taking it over, just do it. You could even have a buddy to co-lead with you if you have someone that wants to do it with you!

We’ll be meeting at Marisa’s house this week for women’s group. Marisa has an evening of worship planned for us, it should be a great night, so bring your prayer requests and praises and let’s spend time in worship together!

I love that each hostess puts her own thoughts and touch on the week she is hosting, it makes it all different and amazing. I’ve never really been in a group like this that seems to just flow together week by week, it’s a group to treasure for sure.

P.S. It's my turn to host in a couple of weeks, so I may be posting a poll over on the side here soon, I have a couple different ideas and if I do the poll, we'll do whatever we vote for! Does anyone hate that idea? Should I do a poll on the poll?? :)

P.S.S. One week soon I'd like to have one of the husbands or someone where we're all at take a picture of our whole group to use as a blog header on this blog. I'd love a spring outdoor shot, and one where everyone knows ahead of time so they can do their hair, wear fav clothes, and so everyone can aim at being there that week. Any ideas??

This week we'll be meeting at Leslie's B.'s house for a Green and White week! We'll be having a white elephant sale so if there's something that's been too good to toss, but not something you can use, this is a way to give it to someone. Everyone will go home with something! And we'll be having some green goodies in honor of St. Patrick's Day too. Don't miss it, we had a great time last week. It was a small group, but it was fun, visiting, food, and we played Apples to Apples.

January 6th will be our Extreme Bunco, which didn't happen just before Christmas as there were only 5 of us there. Not too extreme with just five playing, so we held it off. We will be meeting at Tricia's house (not her shop this time; if you need her address, call or email me). Hopefully, with the holidays over and getting past some of the illnesses that plagued us all for awhile, we'll have at least 10-12 of us there to play.

As you probably are aware, we voted 9 to 4 to have our mini women's retreat as a "6:00-midnight" party, instead of an overnighter PJ party. Your planning committee (Jenni, Robin and Leslie B.) will be meeting soon to get things rolling. If you want to be on this committee, now's the time to let me know. We will be keeping the date of Friday, March 13th, as our night for the retreat. Also - if there's something you would really like to do at this retreat, please let one of the planning committee members know in the near future so it can be considered.

We're a Bit Flaky...

We're being flaky (just kiddin' here). Women's Group is not meeting on 12/23 or 12/29 due to the holidays! Enjoy the time with your families while you celebrate Christ's birth and we'll see you on January 6th (place to be posted soon).

We also "flaked" on Extreme Bunco this week as only 5 of us were at Women's Group. So our next Bunco meeting will be the Extreme Bunco night! More details to come!

Hello Everyone!

We have Bunco on December 16th at Jennifer’s house. This will be EXTREME BUNCO with 5 prizes: (1) Most Buncos; 2) Most Wins; 3) Last Bunco; 4) Last Funco; and 5) Most Losses. It’s our last meeting until January 6th, so plan to be there on time – we’ll be doing prayer requests starting right at 6:30 so we can get Bunco started early enough to play a full set of the game.

Also, for next week on the 16th, please bring a Christmas coffee mug (that is microwave safe - and also is non-metallic in the design) for a “special” gift exchange.

It doesn’t need to be wrapped, we’re doing something fun with them. You should be able to find some really cute ones at Wal-Mart, Target, Big Lots, etc., that aren’t too expensive.

This past Tuesday, we all decided on the project we’d like to work on with our women’s group fund. Michael Littau is looking into it and we will have a report on that at our first meeting in January. (Michael helped to purchase these at FBC and said the decent ones run upward toward the $1,000 mark. If that is indeed the case, we may be moving in a new direction as we don’t want to purchase one that’s too cheap and doesn’t work properly.) So - updates will be coming.

Side Note: God has already answered two of our prayers from this week – at least in my family! Josh is feeling better, and as of next week, he’ll be working out of our house with a satellite office until his office is ready for him here in Redding! He’s very ready to officially be home and not on the road anymore. Anyone else have an answered prayer yet? It’s exciting to see answered prayer!

Update on Answered Prayers: It looks like one of our prayers for business owners was answered - just read Mike's blog today! Yeah God! Keep going!!

Before our planning committee meets to plan our Girls Night Out Party (down the road), I thought we should take a group vote since there are some who may prefer a 6:00-Midnight Bash over an actual overnight sleepover. I know that some prefer sleeping in their cozy beds - I'm on the fence myself, I prefer my own bed (and shower in the morning) but if the group votes for the pajama party, I could do it!

So - let's vote and may the best bed win!

Our group will meet at Leslie S.’s house on 12/9 - unless she chooses to do something outside her home. If so, I’ll update the blog and email everyone any changes.

I’m so excited about our new “retreat” plan. We will have a night where we’ll be in our most outlandish, stylin’ PJ’s, dressed for comfy fun. And remember, the theme of our evening is - “Kids? Husbands? Responsibilities? Not Us!” We’re there to laugh, bond, eat, laugh some more. And there might be some sleeping toward the end too. Maybe. Our planning committee will be getting together after the holidays to put together some fun things for that night.

Next week we will definitely be deciding on our “random act of godliness” as discussed. Be praying about this decision this week, and be sure to write down any ideas he lays on your hearts as we make this decision.

Wow, our next meeting is in December! Time is flying! We meet for Bunco at Jenn's house on Tuesday, December 2nd.

NOTE: There will be an important meeting about the retreat. We need to put our heads together about a few things, and it would be very helpful to know about how many of us are definitely planning on going so we can make some final decisions. Please plan to be there if at all possible.

On Prayer Requests: Since we have both Bunco to play and the retreat to discuss, we'll be passing our a prayer requests/praise sheet again and after the retreat talk, we'll pray over those issues before we play Bunco. So, think ahead about what you'd like to add to the list. We will also have a sign-up sheet for January-April, 2009, for hosting the next several months after the holidays.

Women's Group Canceled This Week! (11/18)

Due to possible illness and an extremely busy week within the church, Women's Group will be canceled this week! We will resume in 2 weeks, after Thanksgiving! I'll be posting info on our next meetimg on the blog.

Don't forget we're supporting Chris Cable's "Feed the People at Market Street Manor" this Saturday at noon. Bring your favorite stew/soup/bread/cookies, a cookstove if you have one, clothing donations, etc. and come help at the event! Serving others is such a rewarding experience from many angles, don't miss out!

Jamie is hosting women's group at her house and it will be a movie night (movie title TBA). Her address is on our list.

I am HAPPY to say that we have been accepted for the Ashland property, a really nice house! (I'll post the website to it soon.) Once we pay our deposit, we are secured for it. The owners are very nice, easy to work with, etc. Yeah!!

This is the last Sunday/Tuesday for our next collection, which is gently used coats, clothing, etc. in all sizes (adults and children) in support of Chris Cables endeavor to feed and help the folks at Market Street Manor. The date for the meal is Saturday, November 22nd, and he's making soups/stews, bread and cookies. He could use physical help, cook stoves, soups/stews, breads, cookies, etc., if you want to come and help.

I talked to Joel and the church (Bridge) will be partnering with us in getting ready for Chris Cable's meal, etc. at Market Street Manor. The date Chris set is November 22nd, only a couple of weeks away! Here's what Joel and I came up with:

1. For the next two Sundays, we'll be collecting any gently-used coats/clothing (infant to adult);

2. We'll have a sign-up sheet for anyone willing to make soup, or stew, or baked bread, or cookies to drop off at the meal on 11/22 to support the meal (I'm sure Chris would also welcome any physical help that day too, serving, bringing a cookstove to heat food, etc. See his website for further info at chriscable.blogspot.com);

3. Last year we did food/gift boxes for Christmas to needy families and Joel would like to do this again; he will see if Chris can get him names of families who could really use the help. This is something we'll be gearing for December.

I am currently looking into 3 properties for the retreat. I’ve had so much trouble securing a property that I’m starting to think it’s going to be an amazing retreat since maybe Satan’s trying to put a stop to it as I thought renting a house would be the easy part! :)

Our next collection will be gently used coats, clothing, etc. in all sizes (adults and children) in support of Chris Cables endeavor to feed and help the folks at Market Street Manor. Once Chris sets a date for the event, we’ll know a deadline date. Tuesday, 10/28/08 – we have Bunco at Leslie B.’s house. Leslie’s house is on a private driveway right off Lake Blvd; the house number is on the mailbox on Lake Blvd.

As I related to those who were at women's group this week, I sent an email and called twice to the owner of the property at Half Moon Bay, with no response on his part. We all decided that we should look into the second choice, the San Bruno property. When I got home I emailed the property owner and within 1-2 hours, she emailed me back. I have a feeling she's a Christian as she said she'd love to have us in her home to glorify God! Yeah, I think we have a place for the retreat!! I'll be emailing her back to see how we can cement the relationship! :)

Reminder: This Sunday/Tuesday is the last day we're collecting items for House of Hope!

Tuesday, 10/14/08 – we have Bunco at Leslie B.’s house. Leslie’s house is on a private driveway right off Lake Blvd; the house number is on the mailbox on Lake Blvd. Take your direction sheet (from the new directory list), or plan to follow or carpool with someone who knows how to get there (like Jenni or Jamie).

I emailed the owner of the house on Half Moon Bay this week, but no reply to date. I guess I was lucky with the house owners we had in Florida because I got a reply from them within 24 hours, so I’m not sure what to think about no replies from two houses in a row! I’ll follow-up this week-end if I don’t receive anything and (hopefully) have something to report by next Tuesday.

Please, please! Don’t forget that our collection for House of Hope (items listed on the sidebar) runs through the end of October, so Tuesday, the 28th, is our last collection night. We need to be thinking of what we’d like to collect during November/December. Baby items? Something holiday oriented they might need/want? Toys for the kids’ rooms? Assuming Robin is delivering our current items at the end of this month to House of Hope, maybe she can ask if they have any special needs for the holiday season.

Below is an update on our retreat location. We need a new vote (to the right on the sidebar) as the Ashland property did not work out. In addition, we are not adding Ft. Bragg as a possibility as a few of us have “carsick issues” on the road we have to take to get there. Keeping in mind price, distance, weather, and ability to find something fun to do (shopping, etc.), below are the new choices. Bunco is on Tuesday, 9/16/08, at Jenni's house. So, will it be pumpkin pie, chocolate cake, or key lime bars? You'll have to come to see!

We had a small group this week, but those that could make it had (in my opinion) a really great time talking and sharing. We missed those that couldn't come!

Update on Retreat:
1. The Ashland house owner hasn't returned my email yet. If I don't hear from them soon, I will put out a new vote with a few different properties. One concensus was that due to a few of us suffering motion sickness on curvy roads, we will take Ft. Bragg off our list. Watch for the new vote to come soon!

2. We will be asking for a few people to join me in planning the retreat as it's hard to plan on Tuesday nights with everyone. We don't want to plan a heavy agend for each and every hour, but we also don't want to go without an agenda where we don't make good use of the time together. I mentioned a few ideas that I had in my mind and I think those that were there this week were on the same page. If you love planning, let me know next week when we talk about it, I think at least 3 of us planning the retreat would be good.

Also, on the Women's Retreat, I have contacted the property owners via email for Judge Fehls Home in Ashland to see if the property is available since it appears that is our group's first choice. Apparently, on vacationrentals.com, it showed no longer available, but it shows available on another rental search engine. If it is available, we will pay a deposit to hold our dates. I'll keep everyone posted.

Okay, right out the door as the new "moderator" of the group, I blew it! (Big surprise, huh?) I started the sign-up list with September 2, forgetting that we actually had one more date left in August, on the 26th. (Has August felt a year long to anyone else like it has for me?)

So, on August 26th, we will meet at Jamie's house and finish our discussion on the book "90 Minutes in Heaven." Come whether you have read the book or not, it will be a general discussion of things on our minds prompted by the book.

For those of you who weren't able to make it to the planning meeting this week, here are the results of our discussion:

Schedule thru December, 2008: We have a sign-up sheet mostly filled out. We still need someone to host Bunco for 2 nights in October. The person hosting will be responsible for the dessert and prizes for the month as we decided that one person should do the Bunco nights for the whole month and supply those items to make it easier and more consistent. The nights we still need to fill are October 14th and 28th. We also need someone to host the night of December 9th. If you choose that night, you can host it at your home, make it a movie night, or a restaurant night, etc., and you can pick your activity (i.e., Bible discussion, craft item, etc.)

Collection for House of Hope: Our next collection is two-fold. The Women's Group is collecting t-shirts and shorts that have ties (athletic-type, sweatshirty type material) in sizes LG and X-LG for victims of rape that have to surrender their clothing for evidence. We are asking Bridge Church members to partner with us by donating new towels, hand towels and washcloths. Our collection dates will be from now thru September 30th.

Women's Retreat: We all agreed to have a 2-night Women's Retreat in March, 2009 (the exact week-end TBA). We are looking into getting more info on a few places: Ft. Bragg, Trinidad, Tahoe & Lake Almanor. Once I get the info, I will put together a few proposals to look at and we can make a definite decision. Leslie B. will be looking into getting a Beth Moore video for the retreat for our spiritual renewal. Other than that, we will just sleep in, eat, and pamper ourselves. And all without children or husbands!

Women's Group Blog v. Email: We will be relying on the Women's Group blog for most of our communication in the future. I will be diligent on keeping it current so you can go to the blog if you want to know where our next meeting is being held, what we're collecting for House of Hope, etc. We won't be sending weekly emails out anymore on this info, but I will email if there is something that can't be put on the blog, or if a change happens at the last minute.

Prayer Requests: We will (of course) still be doing our weekly prayer requests and prayer time. We need someone who is willing to weekly write down our prayer requests and then is willing to send them out to the group on an email weekly as I don't want to post them on the blog (privacy reasons). Is there someone who would be willing to take that on? (I'm assuming that Jamie, Jenn & Leslie prefer not to do this as the children's ministry is heating up for the more now. If I'm wrong, let me know!)

Hooray, we're back to Women's Group starting next week, August 19th! I don't know about you all, but I've missed it!

Here's the plan. We'll be meeting at Applebee's at 6:30, where we can share appetizers, or you can buy a dessert, dinner, whatever you want. We'll share updated prayer requests and praises, then move on to plan for the next several months

Here are some things we may be discussing, so please give them some thought before next week:

How often do we want to play Bunco? Or, another game. Resume back to every other week?

What do we want to do next to "dig deeper" into our faith, life issues, etc. (Another book review after we finish "90 Minutes in Heaven?" Start an actual study book or video? Get a list of things that we are concerned about on a daily basis for discussion?)

To have a Women's Retreat? Or not? (If yes, then when, where, cost, and what we'd like it to include.)

Decide on the next collection item as a group for the mission. (Thank you, Robin, for delivering all the swim items to the mission for us!)

A few fun special activities in the next 5 months? (Examples: a park picnic night with our families; a Christmas gift exchange; decorate cupcakes and deliver them to a retirement home, etc.)

Here's your chance! If there's something you've really been wanting to discuss or do, or you'd just LOVE a Women's Retreat, or anything else, this is the time to bring it up.

And lastly, we'd love to have everyone there, including those who only come occasionally. Growing this group would be a wonderful thing!

We're taking a vote here! We have several people who are still having company, are on trips, etc. We are thinking maybe it's a good idea to take 2 more weeks off from Women's Group, with a date to resume on August 16th, which is about when the kids go back to school.

An idea - anyone who's missing our times together can and wants to do something, leave a suggestion in the comments below. Meet at Leatherby's? Go see "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants-Part 2?" Go have appetizers at Applebee's on the patio? Other ideas? Or just enjoy 2 more weeks off?

We need to decide on what we are collecting next. We're open to suggestions, and mine is towels/hand towels/wash cloths, simply because Tricia made the first contribution of some many months ago, and they still reside in my closet. Any thoughts on this?

On July 15th, we begin our first week of the study on the book, "90 Minutes in Heaven," to be held at Jamie's house. Please read Chapters 1-5, and make notes of any thoughts or questions you might have. This is a book discussion, there is no designated leader presenting a study, no "right" or "wrong" answers.

Also - this is the last week for the collection of the swim suits and swim diapers for the mission. We'll decide at the meeting on Tuesday what we'd like to collect next.

Jennifer and I are taking the initiative to let everyone know what to bring to our potluck at Barbara's so we don't have 10 desserts and no "healthy" food. (I still have to ask, why would that be so bad?? Ha!) Here's the breakdown that seemed easiest (remember to plan for a group of about 25):

If your FIRST name begins with A thru K, please plan to bring either a pack of hot dogs w/buns, or 8 burger patties w/buns for the BBQ.

If your FIRST name begins with L thru Z, please plan to bring a side dish.

If anyone's up to bringing any kind of a dessert in addition to their "assigned" dish, feel free, but this way we have main dishes and side dishes for sure.

Maybe Barbara can skip the food (unless she wants to do something she's planned) and provide plates, napkins, cups and some iced tea? If not, someone please let me know and I'll be happy to do that instead. (I don't think Barbara has blog access or email access, can someone let her know?? Vicki maybe?)

Feedback on "Surprised By Hope" Per Joel's Request

Joel's recent email to all of us about the book "Surprised By Hope" asked us to give feedback on what we think about the book, and/or what it might mean in correlation to the book we are getting ready to study, "90 Minutes in Heaven."

Sooooo, here's the promised forum for those thoughts. This is the place to say whatever you feel about the mini-segment on the link Joel sent out:

You don't have to sound like a professor, opinions are welcome, or you can even let us know if you're simply confused or unsure about what you believe. In reality, many of us (maybe most of us?) feel unsure about it.

Here's the beauty of not only this feedback forum, but for our upcoming discussions on "90 Minutes in Heaven" - none of us will have definite answers. I don't think we can have all the answers. Only God has that infinite knowledge and the answers to these questions will be revealed to us in His timing, likely as we enter heaven and/or when Christ comes again.

On June 24th and July 1st, we are not meeting due to everyone's vacation schedules.

On July 8th, we will have a potluck pool party at Barbara's house to include our husbands and children. Jamie will be sending out an email to let you know what to bring so we don't have 10 desserts and no main dishes. (Would that really be so bad?)

On July 15th, we meet at TBA to have our first discussion on the book "90 Minutes in Heaven." You'll need to purchase your book and read chapters 1-5 by then.

Reminder: Keep bringing the swimwear, etc. collections coming for our gift to the House of Hope. We donate it after the July 15th meeting and select a new idea for the next month.

UPDATE ON OUR MINISTRY:
We are still collecting swim suits (sizes baby to teen) and swim diapers to donate to the House of Hope (items must be new, so look for sales and clearances, etc.). We will end this collection on July 15th. We are also continuously collecting "gently used" suitcases for these women.

UPDATE ON OUR BOOK CLUB STUDY:
We will begin our study on July 8th or 15th, date TBA at this point. I will be collecting books slowly to be ready for this. I don't know what the cost will be as of yet for the books, but I am keeping it to a modest cost.

NOTE: There will be no Women's Group on June 24th due to several women being gone that week!

We will be meeting at Barbara's home to swim and relax. Your children are welcome if they want to swim. Jamie will be emailing driving instructions for anyone who doesn't remember how to get there. (If anyone still has a copy of Barbara's address, please send it to Jamie's email.)

UPDATE ON OUR MINISTRY:
Starting now and through Tuesday - July 16th - we will be collecting swim suits (sizes baby to teen) and swim diapers to donate to the House of Hope. Swim suits must be new, so look for sales and clearances over the next few weeks as you're shopping. And hey, since we're women, you know we'll all be in the stores!

Also - anytime you have a suitcase you find that's in really good shape, we will donate them as we acquire them. So look for garage sales, clearances, or your own closets. The need to be bigger than a duffel bag or back pack, but probably not the giant sized ones.

After July 16th, our group will select our next saving project (we'll decide that in early July) to donate in mid-August.

UPDATE ON OUR BOOK CLUB STUDY:
This Tuesday, June 10th, we will be asking who plans to purchase their own book titled "90 Minutes in Heaven" so we will know if we need to find some extra copies. I believe the first night of study will be either June 17th or a couple of weeks later (I can't remember,anyone out there know?). I know a few people are gone the last Tuesdays of this month, so we'll keep you posted on this.
